Biography

Dr. McDonald is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Emeritus Professor in the Clinical Research Division (Gastroenterology / Hepatology Section) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. During his long academic career, he established research laboratories exploring the physiology of intestinal lipid transport, intestinal immunohistochemistry, polymerase chain reaction for detection of hepatitis viruses, and measurement of cytokines and biomarkers.  His Curriculum Vitae lists 288 publications in journals that reflect his broad scientific interests.  For the last 40 years, his research focus has been on gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary complications of cancer therapy, including hematopoietic cell transplantation and analysis of transplant outcomes.
