
2023 ASGE Crystal Award Reception
Dr. Yutaka Tomizawa [UWGI], was invited to attend this prestigious annual recognition of gastroenterologists who have made a tremendous contribution to the field of GI endoscopy with JGES (Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society) governing board members, including Dr. Hironori Yamamoto (front far left, who is an inventor of double balloon enteroscopy), Dr.Haruhiro Inoue (front second right, who is an inventor of POEM procedure), Dr.Yutaka Saito (front far right, who is the pioneer of ESD) and Dr.Takao Itoi (back second left, who is an inventor of EUS-guided gastroenterostomy). Dr. Tomizawa has had the privilege of working with the world-leading experts in advanced endoscopy and has strong continuous relationship with these experts.
2023 ASGE Diversity Award for Race and Ethnicity
The Diversity Award is funded by ASGE foundation and granted to a physician who submits an outstanding abstract to DDW that promotes race and ethnicity in health care research.

In this study titled "Social and Environmental Factors Associated With Neoplastic Progression Of Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia (GIM) In A Large Multi-Ethnic North American Cohort", Dr. Tomizawa, et al. studied in a cohort of individuals with pathologically confirmed GIM which was funded by ASGE 2020 research grant. They sent surveys translated in the patient’s native language to all patients in the cohort and ascertain data on detailed demographic information and other social history, and investigated factors associated with neoplastic progression of GIM.
2023 GIE Best Reviewer Awards

ASGE recognizes distinguished journal reviewers for their superior contributions to GIE, VideoGIE, and iGIE, both through completing high numbers of reviews and for submitting the highest quality of work. Dr. Tomizawa was the second top reviewer in the Editorial Board Category of GIE, and the top reviewer of iGIE.

2023 ASGE JGES International Symposium
This year's topic was "Indication and Strategy of Endoscopic Treatment for Colorectal Neoplasia" and the symposium drew much attention from DDW attendants from around the world.
As an ASGE committee member, Dr. Tomizawa served as an ASGE moderator for this prestigious forum in the company of such esteemed experts in the field. He expressed his great honor to work with Dr. Tonya Kaltenbach (UCSF) and Dr. Dennis Yang (Advent Health/Univ South Florida), who are both internationally known experts in the field of colorectal neoplasia management of IBD and third space endoscopy, respectively.
