Eligibility  

We only accept internal candidates from our UW General Gastroenterology Fellowship.

Applicants must have completed (or will complete) an ACGME-accredited three-year Gastroenterology Fellowship to be eligible. They must have met all requirements to be Board Eligible in the Subspecialty of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the ABIM. We expect fellows to sit for and pass the ABIM GI Board Exam during their Fellowship Year.   

Please note: We cannot consider applications with J1 visa status. 

Application Process  

We accept applications until October 1st. We highly recommend that applicants apply during their second year of Gastroenterology Fellowship.

  2. Personal Statement 
  3. USMLE score transcripts 
  4. Reference Letters: 
    1. A letter from your Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director 
    2. A letter from at least 2 other references (note, we need to receive your letters of reference directly. We cannot accept photocopies of these items sent by you unless there are extenuating circumstances explained in writing.)

Selection Process  

We will screen applicants and will send formal interview invitations by October 31st. The Selection Committee for the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship will include Drs. Balmadrid, Baxi, Sangwaiya, Saunders, Singla, Templeton, and Tomizawa. Decisions will be made by February 1st, and the fellowship will start in July of the following year.   

The program will consider enrolling in the ASGE Match in the future and follow the timeline for application and notification as stipulated in the Match.

Application timeline

Oct: Application deadline Submit your application with all necessary materials to gifellowship@medicine.washington.edu, with attention to Dr. Bryan Balmadrid
Oct 31: Invitations to interview Check your email for a formal invitation to interview for the fellowship.
Feb 1: Acceptance decisions The Program Director will send out the decision via email.
In 1.5 Years: The final half of the GI Fellowship You will be finishing up your final year and a half of the Gastroenterology Fellowship in preparation to start the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship. 
July 1: Fellowship begins At long last, one year and nine months following the application deadline, you will begin your journey with the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship Program.
