Biography

Jason Dominitz, M.D., is a board-certified gastroenterologist, Executive Program Director for Gastroenterology and Hepatology for the US Department of Veterans Health Affairs, and a UW Professor of Gastroenterology and Medicine.

As Executive Director for Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the VA, Dr. Dominitz leads over one thousand VA gastroenterologists and hepatologists across the nation and has created new programs for colonoscopy quality assurance. Dr. Dominitz is a nationally recognized leader in the field of colorectal cancer screening, serving on the US Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer and as the VA representative to the National Colorectal Cancer Round Table. He is Co-Chair of a VA research study comparing screening colonoscopy to annual stool-based screening for colorectal cancer in over 50,000 Veterans. 

Dr. Dominitz has devoted his career to ensuring that all individuals have access to high-quality gastrointestinal care through his national VA leadership, research, and service on professional societies. He is passionate about providing each of his patients with comprehensive and compassionate care to improve their quality of life. He values taking time to make sure that they understand their health conditions, as well as diagnostic and treatment options.

Dr. Dominitz graduated from Johns Hopkins University and earned his M.D. from the University of Maryland. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, guidelines, and editorials on the clinical practice of Gastroenterology. Dr. Dominitz is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Quality in Endoscopy Committee and formerly served as a counselor on the ASGE Governing Board and as chair of the ASGE Standards of Practice Committee and the ASGE Research Committee. He also serves as a member of the Gastroenterology Devices Panel of the FDA Center for Devices and Radiologic Health. Dr. Dominitz is currently an Associate Editor for Gastroenterology and formerly was the Senior Associate Editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology and an Associate Editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
