Biography

Dr. Sarah Anne Gunby is an exceptional early‑career gastroenterologist whose academic trajectory, clinical excellence, and commitment to education make her an outstanding faculty member within the Division of Gastroenterology.

She completed her undergraduate training at Lawrence University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Biochemistry, followed by her MD at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She subsequently completed Internal Medicine residency at UW and served as Ambulatory Chief Medical Resident/Acting Instructor, a role in which she demonstrated strong leadership and teaching skills.

Dr. Gunby completed her Gastroenterology fellowship at UW and was selected for the competitive Nutrition, Obesity, and Atherosclerosis T32 Research Training Program. Her T32 project, Nutritional and metabolic factors in diverticular disease, is funded by the NIH NIDDK. Her research portfolio is notable for impactful work in diverticular disease, lifestyle risk factors, and infectious diseases. She is first author on multiple peer‑reviewed publications, including recent work in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Annals of Internal Medicine.
